WHAT WE DO?
Picture

Together we make room for HOPE

We provide holistic support for vulnerable people here in Cyprus, especially for women who have been saved from human trafficking. We walk alongside them to show that they are not alone on their journey and offer tools for rebuilding their lives. For us, its all about helping them find freedom and showing them their own value as unique, gifted and beautiful women. We also go to people, who are not able to come to us.

About us
Room of Hope - Day Center for the Victims of Human Trafficking
Room of Hope is a charity which was founded by Pia Rendic 2014 and  has been operated under the Finnish NGO Vapauta Uhri ry until January 2024. From February 2024 it operates operates under the Cypriot NGO Step up Stop Slavery. Room of Hope has offered support for the victims of gender-based violence, especially for the victims of human trafficking since 2014. We finance our operations with donations from individuals, companies and churches.

During the last 9 years we have helped more than 65 victims of human trafficking. Currently we have over 22 ladies and 15 children who are attending our program up to three times a week. Need for this work in Cyprus is enormous.

Human Trafficking (as defined by Art. 2 of the 2011/36/EU Directive) and sexual exploitation (currently undefined in International law) are heinous forms of gender-based violence (GBV). Women and girls are at particular risk of trafficking in human beings (THB) for the purposes of sexual exploitation, forced prostitution and sexual slavery.

Room of Hope is located in Nicosia, Cyprus. Our mission is to directly help victims who have been affected by human trafficking and sexual exploitation. Our goal is to empower women by equipping them with renewed self-esteem, new skills and sheltered employment – the first and crucial stepping stones on the difficult but possible path to build a new life of restoration, dignity and sustainability. In addition to supporting the women, Room of Hope is also passionate about the developmental needs of their children.

During 2022 we also started to help refugees and asylum seekers. Cyprus, per capita, has the highest number of refugees in Europe and the needs are great.

For both groups, we provide holistic support by offering therapeutic dance sessions, outdoor activities and special outings, parenting support, visitation of shelters, practical assistance, and accompaniment to government institutions and offices, as well as doctors and hospitals. We also distribute food and clothes to those in great need.
